Movies From the 1970s That I Can Remember

movies 1960sI was 10 years old in 1970, and I joined the military in 1978. While I lived in Hawaii from 1974 to 1977, I watched a lot of movies at a multi-screen cinema near one of the hotels. I’m sure I watched at least one at an old theater in the city of Kapaa, the closest city to the rural area my family lived in.

I watched an incredible amount of movies at my first duty station in the military, at theaters and drive-ins, because they showed two or three movies a night on the weekends.

Movies from the 1970s

I went through lists at Wikipedia, and I’m sure I missed a few. Remembering titles doesn’t count.

There are a lot of memorable titles in this list. One of the biggest franchises, “Star Wars”, started in 1977. I saw the third in the trilogy while I was at a port of call in Hong Kong (back when it still belonged to the British) in 1983. The “Alien” franchise started in 1979.

One of my friends and I waited in line at a Mann’s Theater in San Diego County for more than two hours just to get tickets to see “Star Trek: The Motion Picture”. We were both severely disappointed in it. To this day, I consider the second movie to be the real start of the movie franchise.

To be honest, I can’t tell you why I watched some movies on this list. I never would have intentionally watched “Walkabout” or “T.R. Baskin”. They were probably included in double or triple features. I remember falling asleep with some of them.
